An equity curve plots cumulative profit over time. It's the headline most people look at — but the more honest number sits underneath it.
Drawdown is the lived experience
Maximum drawdown is the largest peak-to-trough dip in that curve. It's the stretch where the strategy is underwater and your conviction is tested. A strategy you can't psychologically hold through its drawdowns is not a strategy you can actually trade.
Win rate isn't everything
A 40% win rate can be excellent if the winners are large and the losers are small (a high profit factor). Always read win rate alongside average win/loss and drawdown.
